Research strategy workshop

September 22-23, Kaiserslautern, Germany

Important dates

Registration deadline: August 12th 2005
Submission of position statements: August 22th, 2005

Program

The workshop will commence with lunch at noon on Thursday, 09/22 and end at 5pm on Friday 09/23.

The detailed program of the workshop as well as a listing of the participants are now available on the web.

The goal of the workshop is to bring together leaders in the (broadly definded) software systems area, and to engage them in a discussion of the key research challenges in software systems and the methods and approaches that need to be brought to bear on these problems.

Immediately following the workshop, a social event is planned in the wine-growing region "Suedliche Weinstrasse". A guided tour and wine tasting will be offered at the winery "Kloster Heilsbruck". Then, we will have dinner and enjoy the atmosphere at one of the oldest wine festivals in the region. Transportation will be arranged, with a planned return to the hotel around 10:30pm. Please indicate on the registration form whether you plan on participating in the social event.

Location

Thursday's program will take place at the Seehotel Gelterswoog, while the Friday sessions will be held in rooms of the Fraunhofer Institute for experimental software engineering.

Accommodation

Most workshop participants stay at the Seehotel Gelterswoog in Kaiserslautern. Some stay at the Hotel Burgschaenke.

Registration

Participation in the workshop is by invitation only. The Max Planck Institute for Software Systems will cover the travel expenses of invited participants (economy class airfare, ground transportation, up to three nights at the Seehotel Gelterswoog, single occupancy).

Also, participants are requested to submit, by August 22th, 2005, an one-page position statement describing a "grand challenge" in software systems: an important and challenging problem that is likely to require a 5-10 year research effort. The position statements will help us to organize and focus the discussion at the workshop and to select participant presentations. Statements should be sent in ASCII format to rsw-submit@mpi-sws.mpg.de.
